Hi. I’m Tresta.

Welcome to my blog. I think my thoughts here and they are generally full of wonder at God’s goodness, truth, and beauty. I hope you find something to think about.

On Authority

On Authority

I haven’t been doing much writing here lately and my last post will give most of the reasons why, but one writing commitment I am determined to hang on to in this “busy season“ is the good work at The Cultivating Project. I love those people and the work they do, and writing there is like reaching for the top shelf. I’m on my tiptoes, shaking a little, striving, stretching towards the good stuff.

We have seasonal themes at Cultivating, and this autumn we are writing on Authority and Telos. All the essays you’ll read on the website will center around those ideas, from different perspectives and backgrounds. My offering is The Grace Given to Me, where I reckon with my mistakes of authority and explore a little bit about the Apostle Paul’s use of the phrase “by the grace given to me”.

If there is a healthy way to view authority, this is it. The grace I have received allows me to find better words. By the grace given to me, I have authority in the places I’m invested in, the places I’m sent to, with Christ. I care enough to be the fool still waving, to believe place and a smile and a simple act of kindness still matter. And for all the mistakes I make in the positions of authority I have—grace.

I’m still writing when I can. It’s the best way for me to process things, and the alternative is to put my head down and push through life till I reach some sort of end and miss all the middle parts. I’ll be writing at Cultivating, and I’m toying with the idea of moving my thoughts to Substack in the near future. I like it for its simplicity and old-school, blog-like, we’re-all-connected-and-we-share-good-stuff feel.

If you are subscribed to this blog and I move to Substack in the future, I’ll take you with me! You don’t need to do anything to keep up and you’ll automagically get posts in your inbox. And this website isn’t going away—I have 10 years worth of (somewhat humbling) growth documented here. In the meantime, poke around at The Cultivating Project and check out other stuff I’ve written there.

Thanks for sticking around.
